Rinda's
goal, as the owner of a small business, has always been to develop
long-term relationships with satisfied clients. If you are not
happy with her work, she will politely return your money
and end her professional relationship with you so that she can
devote her time to fulfilling the needs of her other clients.
Rinda has
been copy editing and transcribing the words of other
people for over twenty years. Her specialty has been
formal reports and letters for doctors, psychiatrists, and mental
health therapists--people who are highly educated and with little
tolerance of sloppy work from others. However, she has also,
along the way, always done copy editing and writing consults
for writers and non-medical businesses, and it is in these more
personal areas that she is now concentrating her skills.
In medical transcription, a small
mistake in a medication dosage, for example, can cause
negative consequences for both doctor and patient. This is
why, if doctors and psychiatrists have entrusted their words to
Rinda's care, you can be assured that she will take the very best
care of your words as well! She is a lover of children's
books especially, both as a reader and a writer.
Rinda
brings to the copy editing process an unusual empathy for other
writers and a deep understanding of the writing process and its
difficulties. She loves to encourage talent in others.
It's satisfying for her to see someone else blossom as a
writer.
Her formal
education includes a B.A. in sociology, with minors in history,
early child development, and theology, from a private, Christian,
liberal-arts college, Seattle Pacific University, but Rinda took copy
editing courses for twelve months, full-time, in order to learn this specific skill.
She has now been using it for over twenty years in her own
business and in her own creative writing.
Again, Rinda has
always enjoyed working closely with other people and their writing.
She is respectful of other people's personalities and writing
styles and is gentle with their words. Her goal is to
make their writing look as polished as possible!
COPY EDITING
DISCLAIMER: Rinda does not ghost write
or book doctor other people's books into profitable
publication. She creates and polishes
and sells her own manuscripts by herself, privately. She
does, however, copy edit other people's words.
She proofreads book galleys for publishers and
writers. She transcribes dictated words into
proper formats that are free of technical errors.
She corrects things like grammar, punctuation, and
spelling in other people's writing. She checks facts for
accuracy and points out incongruities. She also looks
for other problems in people's writing such as sloppy
sentences, excessively complicated sentences, and improperly
used words. She will do copywriting for
businesses.
In summary then, Rinda
will make your words--and you--look as professional as
possible, but she will not create nor sell your words for you!
She is not a literary agent. She is not an
acquisitions editor with any publishing house. You, and
only you, are the best judge of where your own work fits into
the publishing marketplace. Only you can choose what editors
can best help you to revise your work. Only you can
decide whether or not you need a
literary agent to help you sell your work. And only you
can decide whether or not your words might need, at some point
in your writing career, the help of a copy editing
professional such as Rinda.
