"All Things" Quilt

allthingsquilt.jpg

My first stained glass quilt: I was still working the glitches out of the applique technique that I invented for this quilt WHILE I was working on it! I won't attempt that sort of artistic grandiosity again! That is why the edges are uneven. The next one I make will have even edges. There are over 90 fabrics of differing ages and fiber content in this quilt. Some of the pieces are about fifty years old; some are brand-new fabric scraps. I used silk, cotton, rayon, polyester, and cotton/polyester blends as well as cotton flannel in "All Things." The back is a single piece of dark, red fabric that lets all the gold stitching show! I used over three spools of gold thread in hand-quilting this piece. The full effect of the quilt cannot be seen in this photograph, but the colors seem to glow with a light of their own.
